Warranty Policy | Average Joe's Golf
Warranty Policy
At Average Joe's Golf, every club is assembled by hand and inspected before it ships. We stand behind that work with a 1-year warranty covering materials and workmanship on all clubs: drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, chippers and putters.
What's covered
For 1 year from your delivery date, we'll repair or replace your club for defects that come from the parts or the assembly. That includes things like:
- A shaft that breaks during normal play
- A cracked clubhead
- A clubhead that comes loose from the shaft
- A rattle inside a wood or hybrid
- A grip we installed that separates or slips under normal grip pressure
- Ferrules or hosel components that crack, fail or come loose
- Any other manufacturing or assembly defect
Basically, if something goes wrong with your clubs that wasn't caused by accidental damage, misuse or abuse, it's covered.
What's not covered
This warranty covers defects, not damage. Clubs take a beating on the course, and normal wear, accidents and misuse aren't something a warranty is meant to fix. Here are some examples of things which are not covered:
- Shafts that break more than 6" above the clubhead (see "Broken shafts" below)
- Breakage of graphite shafts on clubs that have been re-gripped by someone other than us (see "Re-gripping" below)
- Grips installed by someone other than us
- Dented, cracked or deformed clubheads from impact (rocks, carts, trees, other clubs, etc.)
- Shafts bent or broken from abuse, neglect or improper use, including using a club as a lever, pry bar, or anything other than what it's designed for
- Deep gouges, scratches or face damage from hitting off cart paths, rocks or other hard surfaces
- Grip wear from normal use (grips are a consumable, not a defect)
- Cosmetic wear and tear: scratches, scuffs and finish fading from normal play
- Damage from improper storage or transport (temperature extremes, checked baggage without a proper case, etc.)
- Damage caused by repairs, alterations or re-shafting done by someone else without our approval
- Damage from acts of nature (fire, flood, lightning, etc.)
- Any club purchased used or secondhand, not directly from us
If we open a club up and the damage traces back to an impact or abuse rather than a defect, we'll let you know before doing any work. We won't just quietly deny the claim.
Broken shafts
To be covered, a shaft must break within 6" of the clubhead. This is standard across the golf industry. Almost all breakage from normal play happens right where the shaft meets the head, and occasionally a few inches above that. A break any higher means the shaft was damaged in some way, and that damage caused it to break. Maybe it got caught while pulling it out of the golf bag, maybe it got slammed in the tunk of your car, maybe you threw it after a bad shot - these are things which can cause a shaft to become internally damanged and eventually break, even if doesn't break right in that moment.
Re-gripping
If a club is re-gripped by anyone other than us, the new grip isn't covered, so an aftermarket grip that slips or separates is no longer a warranty issue.
Also, re-gripping means locking the shaft in a tight clamp, and it's easy to apply too much pressure. On a graphite shaft, that can cause internal splintering or cracking that you can't see, which can lead to the shaft breaking later. For that reason, if a club with a graphite shaft is re-gripped by anyone other than us, the warranty on shaft breakage ends. The rest of the club is still covered.
Cracked clubheads
A cracked or broken clubhead is covered as long as there are no dents or other damage anywhere on the clubhead that could have caused the crack.
How to file a claim
Please do not send any clubs back for warranty repair without first contacting us for a claim number and return instructions.
Email sales@averagejoesgolf.com or call 602-702-5317 with your order number, a description of the issue, and a few photos if you can. From there, we'll walk you through the best way to get it fixed, which usually falls into one of two options.
Option 1: Ship it back to us
This is the standard route for most warranty claims. We'll repair or replace the club ourselves.
- We'll send you a claim number and return instructions.
- Claim filed within 30 days of delivery? We cover the shipping both ways.
- After 30 days? You cover the shipping to us, and we pay to ship it back to you. You can ship it yourself, or use our prepaid return label for a flat $12.99 (US returns only).
- Once we receive the club, we'll repair or replace it, whichever gets you back to playing condition faster, and ship it back to you.
Prepaid return label ($12.99): Shipping a golf club at a retail counter can be expensive, especially for a full set, and it means a trip to the store, a wait in line and filling out a label. For a flat $12.99, no matter how many clubs you're sending, we'll email you a prepaid label with tracking. Just pack the club, print the label and drop it off. Prepaid labels are available for returns from US addresses only. International customers need to arrange and pay for their own return shipping.
Shipping risk: If you ship with a prepaid label from us, the package is covered for loss or damage up to $100, the standard coverage included with the label. If you ship the club yourself, any loss or damage on its way to us is your responsibility, so we highly recommend using a trackable service and insuring the package for the club's full value. Anything that happens on the way back to you is on us.
Packaging: Whichever way you ship, it's up to you to package your clubs properly. Use a sturdy box with enough padding that the clubs can't shift or rattle around inside. Damage caused by improper packaging isn't covered.
Option 2: Local repair
If you need a club fixed quickly and it's a simple repair, like reattaching a clubhead or replacing a loose ferrule, we may be able to have a golf shop near you fix it instead, so you're not waiting on shipping in either direction. If we approve this route:
- Get an estimate for the repair from the shop and send it to us.
- Once we approve it, have the shop do the repair.
- Send us the receipt.
- We'll refund the repair cost to your original payment method.
This option isn't available for every type of issue, and we'll tell you up front whether your claim qualifies.
A few other things worth knowing
- This warranty covers the original purchaser and isn't transferable if the club is resold or given away.
- Warranty coverage applies to the club as we built and shipped it. If it's been re-shafted, adjusted or repaired by someone other than us without our approval, that work, and anything it affects, falls outside this warranty. Re-gripping is covered in its own section above.
- Replacement components may differ slightly in cosmetic appearance (for example, a shaft graphic revision) if the original spec is no longer available. Performance specs will match what you ordered.
- This warranty doesn't cover damage in transit to you. If your club arrives damaged, let us know right away so we can handle it as a shipping claim under our Shipping Policy rather than a warranty claim.
- We reserve the right to make the final call on whether a claim falls under warranty. We'll always explain our reasoning, and our goal is to get you back on the course with a club that performs the way it should.
