The SMT Indio Offset fairway wood is built for one job: getting rid of a slice. The face sits closed at address, the hosel is offset so the face has a fraction longer to square up before impact, and there's extra weight in the heel to help the toe close through the swing. Three pieces of help, all pulling the same direction.

Weight also sits low and deep in the head, which launches the ball higher and straighter than a standard fairway wood, and the ultra-thin 17-4 stainless face keeps real distance in play off the tee or the fairway despite all the help built into the shape.

So far, so good. Nicely balanced, ball seems to fly well when hit.

It easily replaces my 4 iron in the bag. Launch flight is perfect, slightly higher than the 4 iron, great out of the rough. Distance seems to be as long if not a bit longer than the 4 iron.
